Situated at the front of the proposed North Oakville Life Science Park and near the new Oakville hospital, the project aims to create a gateway for the overall development. We assisted the client to develop the massing and exterior design as well as the Site Plan application.
A healthcare service hub, Oakville Family Vision complements the adjacent hospital services; as a result, the access points of the site have been carefully located for a more efficient traffic flow. The ravine, as a natural connection, and the sloped green roof, brings a sense of serenity to the entrance of the clinic. The program requires outpatient and private medical services with heavy foot traffic. It also houses a professional office, research centre and laboratory with a necessary degree of privacy. To properly manage the flow of users, the design separates the spaces into two distinct groups with a podium in between in which a restaurant and outdoor patio opens up the view to the ravine.
The tower, visible along Dundas and distance, curves at the corner to create a more dynamic visual as an expression of movement. Inside, the program is organized carefully to distinguish between public and private spaces; yet the flow allows for interaction between them holistically. Moreover, the podium intended to not only create a lobby and reception, but also connects the exterior and interior spaces with views of the ravine. With a generous skylight, the podium benefits from natural light penetration all the way to the main entrance of the building.
Refreshing, relaxing, easy to navigate, and comfortable, the Oakville Family Vision is a delightful place to work and an inviting clinic to visit.
